Industry Competitions

The Master Innholder Scholarship Programme


The Master Innholder Scholarship programme awards scholarships annually to managers in the hospitality industry. Successful candidates are granted places on a two week management development course at Cranfield University, Cornell University (USA), or the École Hôtelière de Lausanne (Switzerland). The entire cost of tuition, board and lodging is included as well as a contribution towards travel to Cornell and Lausanne.

The Gold Service Scholarship


The scholarship seeks to find a winner who has the capacity and ambition to become a leading service professional. The prize is a year's worth of mentoring, learning, travel and placement opportunities, but all national finalists also receive a range of benefits. Entrants must be aged between 22 and 30.

UK Restaurant Manager of the Year


This annual competition from the Academy of Food & Wine Service is for those working as restaurant managers. there is no age restriction but the competition has a very high standard of entry. To enter the 2015 competition keep an eye out on their website.

Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Annual Awards of Excellence


The awards are available for people aged between 20 and 26 who are working in F&B Service. Entry is usually December/ January by application.

Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Master of Culinary Arts


This highly prestigious senior award is offered every four years. It is open to people with at least 10 years full-time experience, and who are also able to demonstrate the highest standards of craftsmanship. The next competition will be in 2017.

Sommelier of the Year


This competiton is run annually by the Academy of Food and Wine Service for those working as sommeliers. Application is around October. There is no age restriction but the competition has a very high standard of entry.

Sake Sommelier of the Year


The competition aims to find the most skilful Sake Sommeliers bringing them to the attention of their customers and employers and raising the profile of their profession along with their establishments. An enormous amount of learning and confidence-building takes place by taking part in the competition.
