Rothschild Rising Star 2015

Winner Rothschild Rising Star Award 2015

Lydia Mellor - Ivy Market Grill - Restaurant Manager

After a tough finals day at Waddesdon Manor where Lydia and the other finalists had to present their business case and make a test about Rothschild wines.

Lydia did the best on both disciplines and was the worthy winner of this years award.

The judges were very impressed by her business case and she scored the highest marks out of all.

This what she said on the experience:

Being in Bordeaux at harvest time is very exciting, everyone is busy In the vineyards and there is a great sense of occasion. We were lucky enough to be apart of an invited group to do the harvest - our first day was learning about mouton cadet and how their wines are produced. We went to a growers chateau to understand how they produce their wine and see first hand how a large establishment like mouton cadet can help small growers. We had a tour of the winery and a tasting so we can see the different styles of what cadet produce. It was announced whilst we were there that Mouton Cadet we're sponsoring the Ryder Cup in the USA and UK, due to this we had a meal at the Golf du Medoc where we indulged on foie gras, oysters and venison and ofcourse some lovely wine!
Our second day was an early start to the vineyards of Chateau Mouton Rothschild where we were let loose with secateurs and harvested Cabernet Sauvignon. It was hard work even though we only did it for a couple hours, thank fully a glass of wine was not far away. We joined the 'real pickers' in the garage for lunch where wine and baguettes lined the table. We served by the pickers wives and it felt like a family affair. The food was delicious and it was such a great atmosphere. Baron Julienne and Baroness Camille came to greet us and shake hands which made it even more special. We then went for a tour the chateau where we saw the gallery of all the art work that has been on their bottles. In the evening we were treated to dinner at Chateau Mouton Rothschild where we experimented classical French hospitality. The food and the wine was delicious and made it fell very special.
Overall an unforgettable experience.
